Why is it important?
Rewilding is vital to protecting wildlife no matter which part of the world. It has the power to reverse species extinction, help tackle climate change and also support our own mental and physical wellbeing.
Getting out in nature, learning about the world around us and ensuring you get some time out in the fresh air are all massive players in our physical and mental wellbeing. During the Covid-19 pandemic, it was clear that getting outside had serious benefits on our mental health, and gardening even became one of the most popular hobbies across the country. People once again began to realise that spending time in nature is calming, relaxing and gives you a sense of achievement.
How Can you Help?
Having the opportunity to reverse species extinction is very powerful, and shows just how impactful the idea of rewilding is. This doesn't just have to happen on a large scale either, we can all do our bit in our own gardens to encourage wildlife to thrive, protect our local wildlife and watch it blossom.
Try creating a bug hotel to encourage insects and small mammals such as hedgehogs to find a safe and cosy space to hide away from predators. Just leave things be.
